are memes. I really need to think some original thoughts and write them down and make an actual post sometime, but meanwhile, a meme from brumeux77 :

RULE 1: You can only say <strike>Guilty or Innocent.</strike> Yes or no will do for me!
RULE 2: You are not allowed to explain anything unless someone asks!
Words!

a meme...

Reply to this post by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

mrsquizzical gave me:
johnny
panic!
theatre
children
film

Johnny - meaning (do I even need to say?) Johnny Depp.
I adore Johnny for so many reasons. He represents almost completely the person I always wanted to be - intelligent, generous, skilled & diverse actor, loving & protective parent & husband. He lives his life in front of us all and he wears it on his skin but it's also so completely his own. He has said that he would kill anyone who threatened his children and I absolutely believe him. He has also said that he loves playing Barbies with his daughter. If that doesn't make you melt into goo and also burn with fierce papa-bear pride then I just don't know about you. He reads extensively, he writes, he makes music, he paints, and he does all of it really well. He is genuinely grateful and humbled by his fans, and he makes time whenever he safely can to say that to them directly. He hugs people and touches them gently and gets protective when other fans are idiots. He has the cutest smile you will ever see on a 46-yr-old man. Or any other man, actually.
My biggest fantasy daydream is to spend an evening visiting with Johnny, Vanessa and the kids, eating and drinking and talking the night away. That would be heaven.

Panic! -
I'm really not sure how to express what Panic! at the Disco mean to me. So... random thoughts....
The music & lyrics of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out has restored my faith in the goodness of teenagers. Shut up, I know, but seriously. I've been known to hate on teenagers, but to think that these boys wrote these pieces of art when they were 16/17 whatever reminds me that people that age can be brilliant and beautiful just as much as they can be self-obsessed idiots.
Also (at first at least :-|) they were a huge symbol (for lack of a better word) for the awesomeness of close longterm friendship. I suspect a lot of that is actually myself (and the fandom in general) putting that onto them whether or not it's actually the case, but that doesn't matter. It's still a real impact.
My two biggest killers with the split are that Ryan and Spencer are not (seemingly) bffs anymore, and that Brendon now has to sing Ryan's words without Ryan being there subconsciously saying "it's okay to reveal me to world". Again, this is me putting ideas onto them rather than actual fact, but hey, why spoil a good story with the facts, as my dad always says.
In general I am just constantly boggled by the talent of all of them. They have, and they are, amazing gifts.
Also, all four of those boys have the best smiles ever. Other than the aforementioned 46-yr-old man. Obviously.

Theatre-
I adore theatre. I don't actually have all that much experience in it really, but I've always loved being on stage for any reason. Sitting on a stage in an empty dimly-lit theatre is where I go when I need a happy place. A theatre and a stage just have this energy that is always there, waiting for you to take it and use it and then take a piece of it with you when you finish. And an empty theatre never really seems empty at all. There are so many people and stories and moments in there always.
That energy I mentioned is very empowering. People are often surprised when I say I'm a wannabe actor, because I'm quite shy. But actors are often shy people, I find. It's that energy combined with the intimate knowledge of your character and your story that is such a good feeling, you have to get it out there. And theatre is so immediate so you feel the appreciation (or lack thereof) straight away so that puts more and different energy all around.
Hmm. I've never described it like that before. There you go.

Children -
My children bring out my very best and my very worst. Which I think is pretty universal. They are amazing to watch and talk with and learn from.
Children, in general, deserve better than what our society offers them. So much crap is thrown into their faces and they are told what to think, what to like, how to categorise the world and how to behave. Right now the biggest and truest ambition I have for my children is that they reach adulthood still authentically themselves.
I dream of a world where no one advertises anything to children, where they make their own games and toys and fun, where they eat real food and where there are no "should"s or "don't"s that don't relate to safety or respect.

Film -
My feelings here are very similar to what I said about theatre. There's technically no audience on a film set for the instantaneous feedback but there are plenty of people reacting nonetheless. And the beauty and awesomeness of film is that you can make a story that can reach millions of people in all sorts of different places and lots of those people will be deeply moved, or amused, or saddened, or shocked... impacted... by what you made exist.
I really want to DO THAT.

Sorry, I really should put pictures of the pretty men when I talk about them, but.... I have a toothache that is making my eyeballs hurt. Time out.
When you choose baby names, do you also choose names for stillborn babies? What a dreaful question for a meme.
84. Have you ever seen the Queen of England? Only on the telly.
85. Have you been to the top of the Post Office Tower? What and where?
86. Do you use chap stick? Yes but I forget too often!
87. Are you too forgiving? I like to think I'm pretty forgiving. I don't think it's possible be too forgiving but I think it is possible to be too trusting. I don't think I'm either.
88. Do you own something from Hot Topic? No but I own some things that seem like things Hot Topic would sell.
89. Do you own a gun? *is suburban Australian mum* I think if I ever SAW a gun in real life I would be terrified.
90. Have you made a prank phone call? Yes, when I was about 9. Is your fridge running? HA HA.

91. Have you ever been in a castle? There's a shopping centre near here called Castle Towers...
92. Do you like your hair? Yes, but it's very unhealthy at the moment and needs some attention.
93. Do you like yourself? No, not generally. But I do like the person I'm trying to be.
94. Are you closer to your mother or father? Until the last 6 months or so I would've said Mum. Now I'd say eeehhh I dunno!!! Emotional conflict!
95. Do you chat on AIM often? Never. But I chat to mrsquizzical on YIM nearly every day.

5 things from mrsquizzical
Some random thoughts on the 5 things my darling mrsquizzicalassociates with me... (if anyone else would like to think of 5 things for me to talk about, please do. I can give you 5 things, too, if you like. Comment away!)

1. C-sections and vbacs.
My first daughter's birth was one of the biggest turning-points in my life. I had been desperately excited about giving birth naturally and when it didn't work out, I was shattered. I had a caesarean at 42 weeks for a bunch of "reasons", none of which were very good ones, but to a young first-time mum, the doctors' warnings were very scary. I blamed the doctors, I blamed myself, mostly I was very angry at God, who until then I had totally believed in. When she was 18 months old I finally forgave myself and the doctors, but that feeling of betrayal and of being let down by the people and god I trusted was just so huge.
When daughter #2 ended up as a caesar, too, also at 42 weeks and after 12 hours of labour, it wasn't so bad, because she actually was in danger. It was very very scary and in her case it actually saved her life. It still sucked, but just the knowledge that I had made the decision for the right reasons made it a good thing.
My third bub waited till almost 42 weeks as well. It was definitely the hardest pregnancy, not just physically, but emotionally, with the constant judgement and questioning of my desire to labour again. Never did go into labour, and when bub started getting distressed in there it was another caesar, quick-smart.
I'm not even going to bother defending my desire to birth vaginally after prior caesareans. (and I know that's not what you were asking, Q, I'm just sayin...) It shouldn't even be an issue and it makes me SO SAD that, for most women, it is. There is something seriously wrong with our birthing culture. Women need to stop telling each other how awful and dangerous and painful childbirth is, and start telling each other how strong and powerful they are. And the medical establishment need to stop playing off the fear and remember why they're there... to help when help is needed.
I'm fairly okay, these days, with my body's total failure at childbirth, and I am pretty much just overwhelmingly grateful for my beautiful healthy babies. A friend miscarried recently, and having three crappy births is NOTHING compared to losing a baby, so yeah. I'm good. But I still will always be sad for the mums and babies who miss out on normal healthy births because of doctor's scare-tactics and misinformation.

My gosh that ws a ramble! Sorry!

2. Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding. Well. Is just the most normal thing in the WORLD and there should be so much more of it going on! Cos, really, if everyone was feeding their baby for the recommended two years it would stop people like me getting so many bloody LOOKS and QUESTIONS about it.
Anyway. I am so aware of feeding my small boy right now. Because most likely he will be our last, so I'm just going to feed him forever and ever. You know, over the school fence at lunchtime...
I know I will really miss this when he's done.
And, breastmilk is yummy. ;-)

3. JoHnny Depp
Johnny, oh Johnny. I don't even have words for the beauty of this man. He's a wonderful father (if rather indulgent), a brilliant actor, and a genuinely good guy. He LOVES people, that's what he does. Really, really loves them. When he loves someone or something, he loves them forever and will not let them down. His attitude towards his fans is amazing. He will stop on his way off set, late at night at the end of a 18-hour day, to thank people for supporting him, and to let his "bosses" (as he calls the fans) know that he appreciates them. He will make a total arse of himself in front of paparazzi cameras, because that takes the cameras away from his family, so he gets bad press instead of having his children's photo splashed across trashy magazines.
He has called himself a failed musician, which makes me sad. But he's still a rockstar, I reckon. WHen he performs he's so humble and focussed and IN THE MOMENT. It is beautiful.

And plus, hello?

He's damn sexy.

4. Dragging you to potter and lj and bandom
Ha! You really didn't drag me though, Q, you poked gently and enticingly, and let me follow and my own pace. And I love you for it.
I still remember us discussing the books, me coming from a point of view of everyone I knew thinking they were bad. Honestly I was so relieved when you said those books I'd been reading (about Potter being evil and witchcrafty) were completely missing huge points of the books.
I still remember the first time you mentioned "erotic stories" about Harry Potter characters and I just thought, well, wtf. I can't even remember how I decided to actually read some of them. But I did!
And you BOUGHT me Deathly Hallows when I wasn't going to be able to read it right away! YOU ROCK MY WORLD.

LJ. I still don't know that I fit in here real well, but I'm meeting people, and I love following you around anyway.

Bandom, Oh my god. You. I (and B!!!!!!) will be eternally grateful that you introduced me to Panic at the Disco. I adore them and I'm finding it so amazing to be a fan of a group that's still current! I've never done that before, all the bands I've loved are well dead and gone! And MCR, and FOB... all with handy intitials too! lol.
I'm finding the RPF so very odd. I have officially shrugged my shoulders and stopped trying to analyse my feelings about it. There are just things that make me uncomfortable and I just won't read them. Easy peasy.
And I'm so looking forward to going to a Panic concert with you one day.

which leads to
5. Brendon Urie
Again, I do not have words for how much I adore this man. He is affectionate and loving and amazingly talented. Multi-talented boys just really push my buttons. I don't really know him all that well yet. But really. That smile and those eyes. When he looks out at the crowd and sees them singing and dancing with him, loving the music he's playing, the joy that puts on his face is simply devine.

And, um. SEXY.

Oh, the other thing that pushes my buttons? Boy best-friends being affectionate. LOVING each other. *sigh*

For fans of pretty blonde drummers...
I was watching some Queen clips today, and was reminded of my mrsquizzicaland her love for pretty, talented, muscly-armed, blonde drummer-boys. Yes, I know that Spencer Smith is sunshine-y gorgeous, and Bob Bryar is intriguingly beautiful, but really, Roger Taylor, from Queen, was pretty damn pretty.

I know he's still alive, and still drumming, but I say "was" because, hey, he ain't as spunky as he used to be.

(Okay, I tried to embed these all neatly and it's gone mental. I did my best. You can still watch the pretty...)

Here, watch this video clip and tell me Roger isn't the prettiest thing ever. (Just ignore the sexy girl with the moustache. We can talk about her another time.) <lj-embed id="2" /></lj-embed><lj-embed id="3" />
Not so much singing but better drumming action...

<lj-embed id="4" />

Under Pressure.... more singing.... (I like when drummers sing, can you tell?)
<lj-embed id="5" />
So. Pretty, yes?

Textas! at the Disco

I've mentioned to a few people that my 4-yr-old daughter is almost as obsessed as I am with Panic at the Disco. She asks for a Panic DVD (either Live in Chicago or Live in Denver) at least twice every day. She wants to be a dancing girl like Dusty and Katie when she grows up. She adores Ryan's makeup. She plays her xylophone along with Eric and does an awesome impersonation of Brendon's sideways-rocking dance.

She has named 4 of her textas (markers, whatever you call them) Brendon, Ryan, Spencer and Jon. They are "the panic at the Gisco boys".

Here they are: red is Spencer, purple is Ryan, pink is Jon, and green is Brendon. Today, yellow is guest-starring as Eric.

And, playing: (you have to imagine Spencer's drums in the middle there, that's why he's so far away)

I only realised when I took the photos that they are actually Barbie textas, and how very girly they are. Ha!

a waltz
I was just thinking.... sometimes, when he's playing, Jon Walker looks like he's dancing a waltz, and his bass is his partner.

I hate technology

I just wrote a post and wrote out 15 first lines of songs for that meme, and bloody internet explorer DIED! (no, don't tell me how hopeless IE is, tell my stubborn husband!)

So, in short, blah. I listen to lots of Eagles and Queen and Doors and there were a couple of Jamiroquai, Peter Allen, a Frente or two (oh go on, you love them too!) but they were too easy anyway and I aint writing them out again, especially left-handed while breastfeeding a squirmy octopus...

Anyway. I have hired Order of the Phonix and Driving Lessons from the video shop and that is the main reason I came on LJ anyway, to tell you lot that I am catching up with the world,and having a bit of a Rupert moment while my hubby is away (wave to him, MrsQ!). And eating Tim Tams and a cadbury creme egg.

That is all.

Actually making a post....

Fancy that.

MrsQ tagged me... and I could never say no to MrsQ.

a. list seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

b. tag seven people to do the same.

c. do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".

Gosh, can I think of 7 vaguely interesting things.....

1. The only thing I have craved this pregnancy is extra strong minty toothpaste. I don't actually eat it, but I have made my gums bleed a couple of times from brushing so much. Seriously, brushing my teeth at the moment is kinda way too pleasurable. Can't get enough. Oh, and also eating ice cubes. I'm eating them almost faster than I can freeze them. CRUNCH!

2. My favourite time of day is about 5am. I just love being up in the quiet and stillness, and I like to get outside as early as I can... but I rarely do these days because I don't get enough sleep.

3. My mother was a swimming teacher when I was a kid, but I never learned to swim, except for the few lessons we had for school sports. (I can swim now but not with any proper technique.)

4. Even when I have a small baby, I really don't like talking about baby stuff. Eg sleeping, feeding, milestones etc. Drives me mental.

5. I'm really fussy about clothes washing. I handwash probably about half of my own clothes and lots of the kids' clothes because I just don't trust the washing machine and I have to make sure the stains come out. And if they don't get dried in the sun, they just don't seem as clean.

6. I also quite like washing dishes. We don't have a dishwasher and I don't want one because they make dishes smell funny. I am a bit in love with the new cutlery drainer hubby bought recently. It makes the washin gup look so neat and satisfying.

7. My hubby's a truck driver and I actually really like that he's away a few mights per fortnight. And I think it's great that he's maybe getting a new job that will mean he's away more often. I love him heaps but I love having the house just to me and the kids, and we tend to get along much better when we're not all over each other all the time.

Merry Christmas! and a meme...

Hey all! I do still lurk here a fair bit in case anyone ever wonders where I am... I'm just hanging out, growing a baby and raising two little girls and busy with the all the end-of-year-ness.

Thank you maple for the beautiful Christmas card. I sent one to you but I don't know if it'll get there on time.

Let me just say that I hope you all have an abso-bloomin-lutely super-fantastic wonderriffic blessed Christmas. And if you don't celebrate Christmas then have the same thing only without the Christmas!

And just because my darling q did it, a meme...

how old were you when you first...

* Fell in love?
Oh gosh. I don't know. About 14 I guess.

* Got a MySpace account?
never!

* Got drunk?
15, I think.

* Smoked weed?
Nope. Only the cool kids at school did that and I was never cool enough to be offered any.

* Got French kissed?
12. Eeewww. SO much saliva.

* Went to the hospital for surgery?
21. Like Q, a caesarean. Though I didn't GO to the hospital FOR it. I was there and it happened.

* Got your heart broken badly?
14 maybe.

* Lost a pet?
Oh, about 4 or 5. Just goldfish though, what can ya do.

* Got arrested?
never!

* Smoked a cigarette?
15 I think.

* Broken a bone?
About 9, a fractured wrist.

* Went to a concert?
11. Dire Straits! Yeah!

* Got your own cell/mobile phone?
17.

* Got a speeding ticket?
never!

* Ran away?
nope.

* Snuck out of the house?
not me! I was a Good Kid!

* Pierced other than your ears?
nope again!

* Got a tattoo?
Was supposed to get one a few years ago, so at 22. Still hasn't happened. SO, let's say 27.

* Bought porn?
Nah. Why buy my own when I can read hubby's?

* Totalled a car?
negative.

* Moved out of your parents house?
18

* Had a kid?
21

* Got married?
19

* How old are you now?
26

K?

So, my darling mrsquizzicalgave me K. 10 things I like starting with K.... this is hard...

1. Kids. Mine, especially. They brought my life together and made it mean something and gave it purpose. They made me realise what's important in life, and they gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.

2. Kangaroos. Because they can't walk backwards. That's nice. Sometimes I wish I could only go forwards...

3. Kindness. Everyone should be more thoughtful and considerate and kind!

4. Kicking. I went to aerobics class last night and we did a whole bunch of kicking. Gee it felt good. Madde me feel all fit and dancer-y.

5. Kaleidoscope. Dontcha think they're cool? There's an ad on telly here at the moment for Bonds new range of underwear called "kaleidoscope". It has a group of women in pretty underwear dancing in circles making kaleidoscope shapes. It's a very cool ad.

6. Keepsake. I have lots of them. From school drama productions, from special events, from special people, from my wedding and dozens of things to do with the girls.

7. Keys. Well, they're pretty handy!

8. Kit-Kat. EVIL chocolate owned by disgusting EVIL Nestle... but oh so yum... *is conflicted*... Doesn't matter now anyway as I've given up chocolate. No more chocolate for me!

9. Knitting. Specifically, my mother's knitting, because I am completely hopeless at it. But I try to learn every now and then, I'll get it one day, and I will make glorious knitty creations for myself and everyone else!

10. Kisses. (Oops, why is the last one I thought of? My poor depreived hubby.) First kisses, especially. It makes me sad that, being happily married and all, I don't get any more "first" kisses. You know the thrill of kissing someone new for the first time? Ah, I miss it. But then, it's replaced with the pleasure of someone who knows exactly how to kiss me properly! :-) So hey, I'll cope.

I guess I'm bored today....

1. The phone rings, who do you want it to be?
Tim Burton. or Robert Rodriguez. Or Johnny Depp. Or Richard Linklater. Or, you know, any professional director would do...

2. When shopping at the grocery store, do you return your cart?
Yes. Especially at the place where you pay $2 for it.

3. If you had to kiss the last person you kissed again, would you?
Always.

4. If you could do it over again, start from scratch, would you?
Yes, but ONLY if I could keep this version too!

14. Any secret admirers?
Millions!

15. When was the last time you were at Olive Garden?
What's that?

16. Favorite ex..?
Aaaah, the exes....

17. What movie do you want to see right now?
Driving Lessons, OOTP, Sweeney Todd (hurry up January!), Before Night Falls,

23. What did you do for New Years Eve?
Went to a party and got hideously, hilariously drunk.

24. Do you think The Grudge was crappy?
What? Sounds like a crap movie.

25. Was your mom a cheerleader?
*snort* No! But she was a roller-skater. And a swimmer.

26. Do you like care bears?
I really don't have an opinion.

29. What do you buy at the Movies?
A choc-mint choc-top ice cream. Sometimes popcorn. Often Maltesers.

30. Do you know how to play poker?
I have a very vague, undoubtedly game-losing idea of it.

31. Anything big ever happen in your CITY?
The 2000 Olympics. The big la-de-dah big-deal-ultra-security APEC conference is here in a couple of weeks. And we have a big bridge.

34. Is your hair straight or curly?
So straight that it's almost impossible to curl it.

35. No, if I don't.

45. Do you need a boyfriend/girlfriend to be happy?
No. But I have a husband and he does make me happy.

46. If you could have any job what would it be?
Actor, in films.

47. Are you easy to get along with?
Not if I'm completely honest with people - but I can make myself easy to get along with.

48. What is your favorite time of day?
Just before bed, kissing the girls goodnight in bed.

49. Are you generally a happy person?
Um, I'm really not sure. I guess not.

50. Make a post explaining them and asking others to comment for their own.

Here's what mrsquizzicalasked me...

tell me why you have dumbledore as your default. i'm amazed!

Beautiful and generous jocapmade me my Dumbledore and Fawkes icon. I just love to look at it! It's actually more about Fawkes than DUmbledore... or perhaps it's more about the relationship between the two. It's all about growing and changing and learning, then starting all over again.

i never pass up the opportunity to hear about the fairy princesses

Ok, well, Q already knows all about my darling girls but for the rest of you... The fairy princess is my four-year-old. There is also the two-year-old (the one who hurt her tooth yesterday). Miss Four is my little sunflower; bright and bold and craving attention. She doesn't care what anyone thinks, she knows what she needs and she's searching for her place in the sun. Miss Two is my little bear cub, sticking close to Mumma. She loves to snuggle and she communicates with me on this magical, amazingly deep level of my heart.

and tell me about the 'johnny namaste' icon. (there's the opportunity to rave about him, ok?)

"Namaste" is a beautiful gesture that we really should see more of. It represents an acknowledgement of a person's spirit, and it means hello, thank you, respect, connection and welcome, and probably more that I can't put into words.
The things I admire most about Johnny, other than his acting skills, are his respect, generosity, gratitude, and love towards the colleagues and fans who support him. All those things are present in his namaste, and I love that he does it so frequently, particularly in places where it is too busy or noisy to talk to anyone properly. He makes such an effort to acknowledge and touch the lives of the people who support him and I think that makes him a very special person.

for the interests - since i've already covered johnny *snort* i want you to blab about acting,

In year three in primary school I performed the "Skipping Rope Hornpipe", as the Sailor's Wife, in a class play. This entailed wearing a fat suit and a huge red dress, and singing while eating a chocolate bar and skipping rope.
I was hooked. I knew from that moment that I wanted to act. I started acting classes as soon as I could and was lucky enough to find two wonderful teachers who were classically trained at RADA in England, and who impressed into my young mind some of the crucial truths and skills of acting. As I grew up I saw as many live performances as I could and I have always been completely in love with the way an actor can draw you in, tell a story, make you feel something you've never felt before.
A stage, even an empty stage in an empty theatre, is one of my favourite places in the world. And as I get a bit more film experience, film sets are getting up there in that "favourite places" list too.
I love exploring emotion and truth and perspective. I love to think about what another person, a character, would think/feel/do/say in whatever situation.
I see great films and I just want to be a part of that. I want to be a part of making people feel something. I want to make people think about other stories, other lives, other perspectives. I want to make people laugh and cry and gasp and smile.
I want to bring to life people that can only live through me (my, that sounds strangely religious!) and let people get to know them. Part of me wants to hide behind someone else's writing and someone else's life, because that's easier than showing myself.

gardening

Ok, well, currently, I have a pumpkin plant that is totally taking over the world, starting from my backyard. It's not fruiting, though. I dunno. I'm certainly no expert gardener, but there really is something wonderful about digging in the ground and helping things grow, and eating lovely fresh things from your own garden. I like wild, overgrown cottage garden type gardens, and I love to have nice big bushy things like lavender and daisies. Someday when we have a nice big property I wil have a gorgeous big garden like Jamie Oliver's.

and i'm pathetic enough to want to hear you talk about harry potter. *grins*

Oh man, what do I say about Harry Potter to you lot?
I very much admire Rowling's writing. It's a huge concept that had so much planning and thinking and plotting and apart from all that, beautiful characters. And although I sometimes think Harry is (don't shoot me!) a bit too "typical child hero", it works anyway and I love him, and I love that he's an emotional person and that the books are more about emotion than action.
I love Dumbledore with all my heart, because I really want a Dumbledore of my own.

*yawn* I'm too tired to write anymore now, my eyes keep closing without my permission.

'night.
